Contemporary Workshop with Pedro Ruiz

Jun 22, 2009 - Jun 26, 2009; Mon - Fri
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

World-reknown choreographer, Pedro Ruiz, will be teaching a week-long Contemporary Workshop Weaving the Classical ballet with Modern, Spanish, Latin and Afro-Cuban culture.

The classes will weave threads of classical ballet, modern and folk dance from Ruiz's background to develop works, bringing to realization a unique technique and identity. The class will consist of a Ballet Barre with a Contemporary and Repertory Centre.

"In all my work, I try to bring together the highest standards of choreography and musicality — always striving to show steps in new ways with theatrical clarity. Much of my choreography incorporates both the culture and music invested in the Spanish, Latin American and Afro-Cuban traditions. I appreciate the quiet eloquence and dignity of emotion, as well as the heat of intoxicating rhythms, in all its various expressions. I like to explore images, movement and emotions using the vast vocabulary of dance to its best and highest-quality theatrical effect."
