Buglisi Dance Theatre Repertory Workshop & the Table of Silence Project

Be a Part of a Historic Event!

Next week Peridance is excited to have Jacqulyn Buglisi, Artistic Director of Buglisi Dance Theater in the studio. Jacqulyn and some of the company’s dancers will lead a workshop, which will begin with a short ballet barre, followed by improvisations that explore dance as a language that enhances dramatic focus and expressiveness.

Buglsii Dance Theatre's Table of Silence Project Workshop at Peridance Capezio Center will provide dancers with an opportunity to share in BDT's creative process through the style and movement vocabulary that will be used in the Table of Silence Project 9/11, a site-specific performance for 100 dancers commemorating the tenth anniversary of September 11th. Emphasized are focus and the dramatic use of opposition onstage, as well as performance elements and techniques to enhance a dancer's communication with the audience.

Workshop participants may be asked to perform in the historic Table of Silence Project 9/11 event on the Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center, Sunday morning, September 11th. This poignant, 12 minute ceremonial event - creating a peace labyrinth - will culminate symbolically at 8:46 a.m. with the dancers encircling the Revson Fountain, raising their arms in a universal gesture of peace.

PeriChild Ensemble Performs Sean Curran's Choreography

The PeriChild Ensemble has had the honor of working with renowned choreographer Sean Curran this 2009/2010 season. Sean has worked in collaboration with the dancers to re-create (Another) Metal Garden, a fan favorite from Sean Curran Company. Here's what Sean had to say about his experience while working with the dancers:

"As a choreographer with a company of professional dancers who also makes many dances for college students, I must say that working with the young dancers of PeriChild Ensemble has been quite refreshing. Their unbridled enthusiasm, abundant teenage energy and genuine sense of humor has been a welcome reminder of why we do what we do as teachers and artists. They had many lessons and gifts for me and I have so enjoyed our time in the rehearsal hall together. I cannot wait to see them on stage in our dance that we have made together."

Sean Curran, Artistic Director of Sean Curran Company

Come see the PeriChild Ensemble perform (Another) Metal Garden, choreographed by Sean Curran in this year's Kids Cafe Festival.
Sunday, February 7th, 2pm at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts / Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus

PeriChild Annual Performance

What's the latest with the PeriChild Program?!

This years annual performance was a huge success! Each spring semester culminates with an Annual PeriChild Performance featuring PeriChild students involved in Pre-Ballet and up, ages 4 to their late teens. This is an excellent way for the dancers and classes to showcase what they've learned throughout the year. This year's Annual PeriChild Concert was on June 6th & 7th and held at the Marien Anderson Theater at Aaron Davis Hall, attended by over 700 parents and family members. The concert included Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap and Hip-Hop and was rich with creativity, energy, a variety of styles and techniques and a whole lot of excitement!

Below is a slide show of pictures from this year's concert - all photos were taken by professional photographer Melissa Birnbaum / Meems Images.

The PeriChild Summer program is currently in progress. The upcoming Fall Session is beginning September 14, 2009. See the website for more details!
